The single most important thing that can be done to improve reading comprehension is to provide children books they can read with 96% accuracy that they LOVE - and LOTS of them! Students in my literacy classes will learn which books are the right fit for them so they can begin to do the reading work necessary to grow stronger as readers. Parents will also learn how to help their child build their best reading life by supporting their child's reading at home.
The first few weeks of school will be spent laying the foundation for a successful workshop and getting to know ourselves and each other as readers. Which books will be "just right" for each of us?
